How Do I Permanently Delete My Amazon Account?

Having your Amazon account closed isn’t as cut and dry as most other website accounts. It’s not quite as simple as going to your account settings and clicking a button.

You’re not necessarily jumping through hoops, but closing out an Amazon account does take a few more steps before being removed and providing peace of mind.

Step 1: Cancel Your Open Orders

If you recently placed any orders through your Amazon account, you’re going to want to cancel them before you delete your account.

To do this, you’re going to have to be on the Amazon.com website itself, of course. Once there, make sure you log in to the account you want to delete. You can do this by hovering over the Account & Lists with your cursor and selecting Sign in. Enter the information for your account and click Sign In.

Once signed in to your current account, ensure there are no outstanding orders currently active on your account. If you wish, you can cancel any and all purchases that have not yet shipped. You will not be able to close out your account until this has been completed.

To cancel any orders you may have, click on Orders at the top-right of the home page. Select Open Orders and once the orders are pulled up, click Request cancellation to the right of each order.

What Happens When You Delete Your Amazon Account?

When you delete your Amazon account permanently, you will lose all access to the services provided by the company. If you choose to close your account, it will no longer be accessible by you or anyone else. Furthermore, employees and support staff at Amazon cannot access your account. So, if you are planning to reactivate it, you will have to start from scratch.

This also means that you will lose your Amazon Prime membership along with access to Prime Videos, Amazon Music or Amazon Appstore. Furthermore, all the Kindle purchases and e-books you ordered from Amazon will be deleted as well. Apart from this, your reviews, images account history including order history, and more will be deleted. Furthermore, you cannot use Alexa-enabled devices like Echo or Firestick TV stick as it requires an Amazon account to function.

What Happens After You Close Your Amazon Account?

After you submit your account closure request, the following will happen:

You will receive a confirmation notification by email or text informing you about what next to expect.
You must respond to this email within five days to verify your account closure request.
Once closed, almost all of your Amazon data and history will be deleted.
Also, you cannot access your account again and it cannot be restored.
However, you can use the same email address to create a new account at any time.

You will miss out on associated services such as Amazon, AWS, Seller Central, Amazon Associates, Amazon Flex, Amazon Pay, Amazon Gift Cards, Comixology, Whole Foods Market, among others.

Your Amazon devices, such as the Amazon Echo, Kindle, and Fire TV, will equally be unregistered from your Amazon account. To use these devices again in the future, you will need to register them to an active Amazon account or create a new one.
